Description : Intercosmos 1 was designed to study solar ultraviolet and x-ray radiation and the effects of these types of radiation on the structure of the earth’s upper atmosphere. This spacecraft, a cooperative effort, carried instruments supplied by the German Democratic Republic, the U.S.S.R., and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. Scientists from the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, the Hungarian People’s Republic, the Polish People’s Republic, and the Socialist Republic of Romania participated in the receipt and interpretation of data.
