Description : Gagarin (formerly Gjatsk) is a town near Smolensk, Russia and the administrative center of the area Gagarinski. It lies along the river Gjata. Its population amounts to 26,500 inhabitants.It is the birthplace of the first cosmonaut. In 1976, the 15th anniversary of his flight, there was an exhibition where guests included 7 Soviet cosmonauts and the 1st Polish Cosmonaut Hermaszewski.
